4.2.19. Removal and installation of the engine

Removal of the engine can be made together with the transmission or without transmission, leaving it on the place. You watch also corresponding description in subsection 4.1.18.

Removal of the engine can be made together with the automatic transmission, but it is not recommended in connection with the big weight of the engine together with the automatic transmission.


1. Disconnect positive and negative plugs from the accumulator. Remove a cowl.
2. Remove the air filter.
3. Merge cooling liquid from the cooling system. Disconnect all hoses of the cooling system from the engine, including hoses of a heater and hoses of heating of the carburetor.
4. Disconnect a cable of an accelerator and a cable of control of the air gate.
5. Disconnect a vacuum hose of the vacuum amplifier of brakes from an inlet collector. Remove a hose completely or fix it so that it was not damaged at removal of the engine.
6. Disconnect and close traffic jams the giving and returnable fuel hoses.
7. Disconnect the electric socket of a plait of wires of the engine.
8. In the presence disconnect the electric socket of the sensor of the probe for measurement of level.
9. Disconnect high-voltage wires and wires of low voltage, and also the multicontact socket from the coil of ignition and the control unit.
10. Weaken a coupling bolt and disconnect draft of control of the transmission.
11. Disconnect a speedometer drive cable from the transmission.
12. Disconnect a coupling cable.
13. Weaken bolts of fastening of forward wheels, then lift a forward part of the car and fix on supports. Remove forward wheels.
14. Unscrew bolts and disconnect a reception exhaust pipe from a final collector. Disconnect the grounding tire from the transmission.
15. In the presence disconnect hoses of the oil heater from a casing of an oil filter.
16. Disconnect spherical hinges of the lower levers from rotary fists.
17. Disconnect power shafts from a case of the main transfer. Close openings for power shafts suitable traffic jams. Using a soft wire, tie up the internal ends of power shafts to a body.
18. Hook on the engine slings of the load-lifting mechanism and raise so that the weight of the engine and transmission was perceived by the load-lifting mechanism.
19. Unscrew support of the power unit from a body (the arrangement of the left support of the power unit is shown in the drawing at the left, the right support – on the right).
20. Being careful and if necessary turning, lower the engine from a motor compartment down. For extraction of the engine from under the car, perhaps, it is necessary to raise the car.
21. Separate the transmission from the engine. Unscrew bolts of fastening of a starter and the lower protective cover of a flywheel. Unscrew bolts of fastening of the transmission to the engine and, moving the transmission from the engine, remove it. At removal of the transmission be careful that it did not freeze up on entrance to a coupling shaft.


1. After installation of the engine in a motor compartment tighten bolts of fastening of support of the power unit in the following order:
      – right forward support;
      – left forward support;
      – back support.
2. Further installation is made in the sequence, the return to removal. Check oil level in the transmission and, if necessary, bring it to norm.
