3.2.3.3.1. Check and adjustment of turns of idling

Prevention

Checks require a special diesel tachometer.

DIESEL ENGINES 16D AND 16DA OF EARLY RELEASE

Screw of adjustment of turns of idling of the diesel engine 16D

The screw of adjustment of turns of idling of the diesel engine 16D (it is specified by an arrow) is located on TNVD.

Adjustment of turns of idling of the diesel engine 16D

The main difficulty at adjustment of turns of idling is measurement of turns which on the diesel engine is carried out by special tachometers which are sensitive to passing of a certain tag on a pulley of a bent shaft. However such devices very expensive.

It is possible to measure turns by easier way on in advance known ratio between the speed of the car and speed of the engine on any transfer. For this purpose it is necessary to lift forward wheels, having blocked back and to tighten the emergency brake. The speedometer error, especially at small speeds at which idling turns are measured should not be considerable.

The third way consists in application of the stroboscope connected to system of ignition of the carburetor engine of other car. Put with a piece of chalk to risk on a pulley of a bent shaft of the diesel engine, start the carburetor engine and direct stroboscope light to this tag. Turns of the carburetor engine have to be known at the same time. If turns of the diesel engine and carburetor engine coincide, or differ twice in the smaller or big party, then the lit tag has to remain motionless. Therefore at such measurements it is necessary to adhere to common sense.

In need of adjustment for simplification of access remove a nozzle of the air filter. Release a lock-nut of the adjusting screw and rotate the screw clockwise to increase turns, or counterclockwise to reduce. Upon termination of adjustment tighten a lock-nut, holding the screw from a provorachivaniye. Establish nozzles.

DIESELS 16DA OF LATE RELEASE

Bosch VE TNVD
Prevention

The manufacturer warns that if the restrictive screw of the pump is closed by a cap, then adjustment in car service of the dealer is forbidden. In this case adjustment of TNVD is carried out only by the representative of Bosch.

The procedure of adjustment of turns of idling on diesel engines with such TNVD differs from described above. The pump of this kind can be distinguished on the vertical screw in its forward part. On this pump it is forbidden to break adjustment of the restrictive screw of a control lever turns of the diesel engine. The arrangement of screws is specified in the drawing.

Arrangement of screws on Bosch VE TNVD (diesel engines 16DA of late release and 17D)

1 – screw of adjustment of turns of idling,

2 – turns of the diesel engine (not to touch) the restrictive screw of a control lever,

3 – screw of adjustment of limit turns

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Measure idling turns. At adjustment it is recommended to apply the ways stated above.
2. In need of adjustment release a lock-nut of the adjusting screw, and rotating the screw, establish idling turns. Upon termination of adjustment tighten a lock-nut, holding the screw from a provorachivaniye.

Lucas/CAV TNVD

Arrangement of screws on Lucas/CAV TNVD (diesel engines 16DA of late release and 17D)

1 – restrictive screw of adjustment of turns of idling,
2 – plastic cap,
3 – turns of the diesel engine (not to touch) the restrictive screw of a control lever,
4 – screw of adjustment of limit turns,
5 – a plate with the indication of data on installation of the moment of injection of fuel

Idling turns on diesel engines with TNVD of this kind are regulated by rotation of the restrictive screw 1. The screw of a control lever which is closed by a plastic cap is forbidden to be touched.

Measure idling turns. At adjustment it is recommended to apply the ways stated above.

In need of adjustment release a lock-nut of the adjusting screw, and rotating the screw, establish idling turns. Upon termination of adjustment tighten a lock-nut, holding the screw from a provorachivaniye.

DIESELS 17DR AND 17DTL

Bosch VE TNVD

Bosch VE TNVD starting arrangement (diesel engines 17DR)

The starting arrangement is specified by an arrow.

Gap between the lever of the drive and a blooming collar of a cable of the drive of the starting arrangement (Bosch VE TNVD, diesel engines 17DR)

Shooters specified a gap on the cold engine.
1 – collar,
2 – drive lever

Adjusting screws of idling on Bosch VE TNVD (diesel engines 17DR)

1 – the adjusting screw of idling for the cold engine, 2 – the adjusting screw of idling for the heated-up engine

Bosch VE TNVD installed on these diesel engines are equipped with the starting arrangement with the vacuum drive which provides increase in turns of idling at a temperature below 20 °C. Therefore turns of idling are regulated twice, – on cold and on the heated-up engine.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Measure idling turns.
2. On the cold engine (temperature is below 20 °C) check a gap between the lever of the drive and a blooming collar of a cable of the drive of the starting arrangement which has to be 2–3 mm. If necessary adjust, moving a cable cover in a collar (see rice. A gap between the lever of the drive and a blooming collar of a cable of the drive of the starting arrangement (Bosch VE TNVD, diesel engines 17DR)).
3. Start the engine and check idling turns which have to correspond to specifications. In need of adjustment rotate the adjusting screw for the cold engine and establish idling turns (see rice. Adjusting screws of idling on Bosch VE TNVD (diesel engines 17DR)).
4. Warm up the engine, having made a trip. Make sure that at a temperature above 20 °C the cable of the drive of the starting arrangement is involved and turns the lever, bringing it into contact with the adjusting screw of idling for the heated-up engine. At the same time the engine has to work at the lower limit turns. If necessary adjust idling turns, rotating the adjusting screw for the heated-up engine.

Lucas/CAV TNVD

As well as Bosch VE, TNVD TNVD of the Lucas/CAV type is also equipped with the starting arrangement with the vacuum drive which provides increase in turns of idling at a temperature below 20 °C. Therefore, idling turns are also regulated twice, – on cold and on the heated-up engine.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Measure idling turns.
2. Start the engine and check idling turns on the cold engine which have to correspond to specifications. In need of adjustment, release a lock-nut of a rod of the vacuum drive, and rotating a rod, establish idling turns. Upon termination of tighten a lock-nut.
3. Warm up the engine, having made a trip. Make sure that at a temperature above 20 °C the cable of the drive of the starting arrangement is involved and turns the lever, bringing it into contact with the adjusting screw of idling for the heated-up engine. At the same time the engine has to work at the lower limit turns specified in specifications. If necessary adjust, rotating the adjusting screw for the heated-up engine at the released lock-nut. Upon termination of tighten a lock-nut.
