5.4. Removal, check and installation of the thermostat

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Merge cooling liquid from the cooling system and remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
Models of 1,2 l
2. Disconnect the top hose of a radiator from the water pump, at the same time access to a lock ring of the thermostat will open.
3. Using an edge of the thin screw-driver, remove a lock ring of the thermostat.
4. Take the thermostat from a branch pipe of the water pump.
5. Unscrew five screws and remove a casing of a gear belt.
6. Weaken a collar and remove the top hose of a radiator from a thermostat casing.
7. Unscrew two bolts and remove a thermostat casing. On later models for access to a casing of the thermostat it is necessary to remove a back casing of a gear belt.
8. Note an arrangement and remove the thermostat.
L models 1,6, 1,8 and 2,0
9. Weaken a collar and remove the top hose of a radiator from a thermostat casing.
10. Unscrew bolts and remove a thermostat casing. Remove the thermostat. On models of 2,0 l with 16 valves for removal of the thermostat on it it is necessary to press and turn it in this situation.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. A rough inspection of the thermostat can be carried out, having suspended it on a thread in the glass vessel filled with water and heating water to boiling. When boiling water the thermostat has to open. Otherwise replace it.
2. The thermostat which is not closed when cooling water is also subject to replacement.

1. Installation is made in the sequence, the return to removal, but at the same time it is necessary to use new rubber consolidations and to install the thermostat so that the arrow on a crossing point was directed up. Fill in cooling liquid in the cooling system.
