10.2. Automatic transmission

On cars the automatic transmission of General Motors is installed. The transmission provides inclusion of three transfers of the forward course, transfer of a backing and compulsory inclusion of a low gear. The differential and the main transfer are located in a transmission case.

The torque from the engine to the transmission is transmitted through the hydrotransformer which performs function of liquid coupling and operates as automatic coupling, and also provides torque transmission at acceleration. Torque transmission between gear wheels of the transmission is carried out by chain transfer and the hydraulic drive which operates gear wheels, couplings and brakes, depending on the speed and loading. Because the transmission works in rather severe conditions, absolute purity is necessary for normal operation of the transmission. It needs to be considered at addition of transmission liquid or removal of any detail from the transmission. Hit in the transmission of sand or dirt will put out of action of the valve and will break operation of the transmission.

The automatic transmission represents the difficult unit therefore in house conditions it is possible to execute only the operations given in this subsection.
